Our Director
Anna Ahrens is a conductor and vocalist born and raised in northeast Ohio. In 2017 Anna graduated from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a masters degree in choral conducting where she studied with Dr. Marie Bucoy-Calavan and served as graduate assistant conductor for The University of Akron Men’s Chorus, Concert Choir, and Chamber Choir, and also as teaching assistant to the choral conducting classes. She has also studied one-on-one with several renowned conductors such as Robert Porco (Cleveland Orchestra Chorus), Duain Wolfe (Colorado Symphony Chorus), and James Jordan (Westminster Choir College). Before joining Summit Choral Society(Summit County, CO) Anna worked with local church choruses for several years and was appointed for two seasons as the Western Reserve Choral Conducting Fellow with Summit Choral Society’s Masterworks Chorale(Akron, OH), where she helped to prepare and conduct the chorus in concert, in addition to offering pre-concert lectures and guest conducting with Summit Choral Society’s Children’s Choruses.
Ms. Ahrens has also had the honor of singing with many different choral ensembles, including the world renowned Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus at Severance Hall (Cleveland, OH) and The Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (Denver, CO). She is passionate about sharing musical experiences with as many people who have the desire to learn because she believes it has the power impact every area of a person’s life for the better. In addition to conducting, Anna also loves teaching voice and beginning piano. She has years of experience working with students of all ages, from young kids to retirees, and is excited to help her students grow as people and as musicians.
When Anna is not conducting or teaching music she can be found most often hanging out at home with her dog and two cats Ravi, River, and Theo, or taking Ravi for a hike. She also works as a personal fitness trainer and enjoys weight lifting and snowboarding with her boyfriend Luke. She has studied piano, guitar, and harp, and continues to improve her skills on these in her spare time. Anna also loves to run, read, drink lattes, and catch up on the phone with her parents and 5 siblings.
